First of all your very pretty so why do you have social anxiety? assuming thats your picture in the little square but secondly to answer its because it affects the neuro transmitters in your brain and alters your mood making you socially relaxed. My wife has social anxiety too and im going to try to get her on something.

I was on Effexor and I could not sleep. My Doctor switch me to “Klonopin” (1mg) the same that the actress “Jodi Foster” takes, but it also requires a sleep aid. I’ve been given “Seroquel” (!00mg) and the two have been the most successful for me out of fifteen year of suffering from “Panic Disorder”. Also Klonopin can work fast and a extra one can be taken in an emergency and especially before you go to the Dentist or anything else that might cause you extra Anxiety!

I have been on Effexor for a few years now.
I suffered from Social Anxiety (didn’t leave my house for over a year.)
Effexor has NOT caused me to gain any weight. My over-eating has. ;) And it started working in about 2 weeks for me.
I can tell you that you ABSOLUTELY MUST take your medication every day. The withdrawl process is terrible. Do not quit taking the medication until your doctor has told you that you can. They will usually take you off gradually.
My life is nothing like it was before. I don’t feel the need to take my “emergency” meds anymore, such as Lorazepam.
My sex drive took a dive, but my sleeping patterns were much better after a month of usage.
GOOD LUCK! I hope this helped you!

effexor has dual effects.. on serotonin and noradrenaline (norepinephrine) mediators… especially serotonin has a great role on social anxiety.. another fact many social anxiety forms can be co-morbid with any other psychiatric disorder, particularly depressive disorders… and i think effexor has a strong effect on depression…
